FORD EXPLORER AMERICA

is designed for up to six passengers while improving fuel economy by 20 to 30 percent relative to the current V6 Explorer. The powertrain packages in the concept vehicle include a two-liter four-cylinder turbocharged direct injection EcoBoost gas engine with 275 hp (205 kW) and 280 ft·lbf (380 N·m) of torque, and a 3.5L V6 version EcoBoost with 340 hp (254 kW) and up to 340 ft·lbf (460 N·m) of torque
Being a concept, some liberties were taken. There are no B-pillars in this design study. And it has sliding rear doors to make the loading involved in everyday chores easier
Switching to a crossover from a body-on-frame SUV results in a lighter vehicle (by 150 pounds), still with six-passenger, three-row seating and all-wheel-drive. Further gains in efficiency come from improved aerodynamics and a 340-hp, 3.5-liter gasoline turbocharged direct-injection (GTDI) V-6 mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with auto-shift control that allows the driver to turn a dial to select and hold a lower gear when conditions warrant.
