Ban place on milk powder products from New Zealand
The Ministry of Industry and Agriculture announced yesterday that any children’s products using milk powder from New Zealand were to undergo a risk assessment as soon as possible and these products on the Mongolian market should be recalled immediately.
Fonterra, the world’s leading exporter of dairy products, announced at the weekend that it found bacteria that could cause food poisoning in some products. The New Zealand company recalled up to 1000 tons of dairy product from China, Thailand, Australia, Malaysia and Saudi Arabia. Fonterra apologized on Monday and said that no known illness has been caused by the contaminated products. Some countries including China have imposed a ban on the import of the whey powder from the New Zealand company.
Mongolia has also issued a ban on these products, with official documents being submitted to the General Agency for Specialized Inspection, General Customs Authority and the Ministry of Health.
