Mott Mac supports Mongolian wind
Mott MacDonald has provided technical support to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development for a $100m Mongolian wind farm.
The scheme is being developed by Mongolian investment company Newcom and will comprise 31 GE 1.6 XLE wind turbines.
Mott MacDonald will also monitor construction of the wind farm, which is scheduled to finish by end-2012.
It said the 49.6MW Salkhit Uul sited project is the first development within Mongolia to be financed by international project finance.
The company added the power the project generates will service customers connected to the Mongolian central grid.
Mott MacDonald project director Clare Rhodes-James said: “This is a particularly challenging project as the Mongolian environment is quite extreme, with winter temperatures dropping to -50°C and summer temperatures rising to 50°C, while there can also be large diurnal temperature variations. The project is also the first renewable power project to connect to the Mongolian grid, and represents an exciting challenge to the grid operator.”
