A Family Vacation in Mongolia Building Eco-Friendly Homes for the Poor

Irvine, CA (PRWEB) August 01, 2012

On June 30, 2012, Charles Antis, President of Antis Roofing & Waterproofing and a Habitat for Humanity Orange County Board Member, traveled to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, to participate in the Habitat for Humanity Blue Sky Build 2012. His 22-year-old son Erek and his 14-year-old daughter Ally joined him.

Rather than spend their one-week family vacation in some popular vacation spot like many in America, the Antis family choose to volunteer their time building 20 Eco-friendly homes for local Mongolian families in need. After over a full day in transit to Mongolia, the trio began the project with jet lag, heat exhaustion and fatigue from a hard first day's work. Charles Antis' thought at the end of the day was, "What have I gotten myself into?" As the week progressed, it became a quest full of unexpected rewards for the trio.

While Charles worked closely with his helpful son Erek in finally fulfilling a promise to teach him roofing, his daughter Ally took great pleasure in keeping the army of 350 volunteers and homeowners fed, hydrated and cool. Through hard work and dedication they were able to accomplish a lot in a very short time. Then came that inner sense of gratitude as they were able to celebrate with 20 appreciative Mongolia families while they dedicated the homes. The joy that could be seen in the faces of those Mongolia families was a reward that they would never have experienced if they had spent their vacation elsewhere.

After six days into the week long project, Charles Antis described his feelings, "Having shared this experience with some of the most amazing people, I am so sad that it will soon end. It has been one of the greatest experiences of my life." Charles Antis and his children are looking forward to more projects like this in the future and have indicated they will probably go back for the Habitat for Humanity Blue Sky Build 2013. Charles Antis declares, "We made friends with some of the kindest and good-hearted people I have ever met. We experienced a wonderful and amazing native culture."

It was a vacation that exceeded their expectations and an amazing adventure that the family will never forget.

Though Antis Roofing & Waterproofing has been donating all the roofing materials and installation for Habitat for Humanity Orange County homes since 2009 and assists the organization in other ways such as helping on the Mongolia build, this is not the extent of their assistance to those in need. They have also reached out in support to various charities in the community such as the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Walk United, MADD Orange County, Scleroderma Foundation, and many others.
