Spyder gone GT
Not so long ago Audi launched a special and limited edition of their premium sport car, the R8 GT. Being so special as it turned out to be, Audi only made 333 units for Audi enthusiasts with money to spare and well they all sold like sweets on sale.
Now about a year later they are introducing the R8 GT Spyder. Like its brother the GT coupe, they have all been sold before launch. Bummer… Ok, so what’s so special anyway? Let’s start with the facts. It features Audi’s (Lamborghini’s inspired) 5.2 FSI V10 power plant producing 560hp/412kw, 540Nm. Propelling this machine from 0-100km/h in 3.8 secs and on to a top speed of 317km/h. Amongst all the numbers it also manages to lose 85 kilograms of excess fat giving it a kerb weight of 1640 kilograms.
The GT Spyder like all fast Audi’s features a Quattro all wheel drive drivetrain but it is more rear biased giving rear wheel drive cars a slap now and then just cause it can. While it does that, gears can be shifted seamlessly with the 6-speed R-tronic transmission (Sorry guys but no manual here) that gives you that thump up the back side when you change gears in sport mode but can also be set to full automatic comfy cruising mode.
A car originally made for fast-sporty-spirited driving-open top cruising, made into a stiff-race ready-track focused car with all the Audi goodies crammed into it. Still, it should have no problem turning heads.
