Gobi region holds 62 percent of total coal resources
Currently, Mongolia has 90 coal deposits and resources of 10 billion tones and geologists say that about 162.3 billion tons are there to explore. The amount mentioned above can be increased after precise exploration process. In the year 2009, Mongolia has extracted 6 million tons of coal and 16 million tons are planned for the year 2010. Some sources say that 30-40 million tons can be extracted in space of 15-20 years. Mongolia was included in the top 10 countries with rich coal resources. South or the Gobi region of Mongolia holds the 62 percent of total coal resources.
