Co-driver Phil Hall guides Fred Field to top result in Germany

MSA Academy co-driver Phil Hall enjoyed his first taste of the Opel Adam Cup in Germany last weekend, taking twelfth spot alongside Fred Field at the ADAC Rallye Stemweder Berg.

Marking his debut overseas event with Field, Hall would head to the ultra-competitive single make championship for the very first time and would battle against over 20 rivals in identical Opel Adam’s. Competing against many top-line domestic drivers and European aces, Hall would guide Field to an impressive result for the newly formed British duo.

Hall, 28 from Mansfield has had a busy start to the season, making numerous trips to Australia and New Zealand as part of an Asia Pacific programme. This hasn’t left much time for outings at home or in mainland Europe so when Field approached Hall to tackle the event, he jumped at the chance to further expand his European outings.

His previous experience in the country came from his World Rally Championship efforts and the fourth round of the Adam Cup provided some of the closest competition so far this season with seconds separating each contender on the 15 stages throughout the event.

The two-day event offered over 136km of special stages surrounding the Lubbecke rally base and each test would prove critical for a decent result in the series.

A string of top ten stage times during the event ensured the duo kept the pressure on the local pilots and with just tenths of a second separating places, a puncture or spin could prove costly. Hall would ensure Field kept his nose clean however and crossed the finish ramp just outside the top ten.

“It was great to be on the pace from pretty much the word and it’s encouraging for the future,” said Hall at the finish.  “The competition here is mega and it's certainly lived up to its reputation as being one of the best single-make championships in the world”.

“It was great to be alongside Fred and we both really enjoyed the rally and atmosphere that they create when rallying over here in Germany. It’s a real event and everyone gets involved so to have all that and a decent result to boot was a real privilege”.
