The brightness of steel is A.Ochirbold’s mirror
We visited the studio of the sculptor A.Ochirbold, who was the creator of the “Best Creation of the Year” in the Union of Mongolian Artists’ 2010 “Autumn” exhibition, and first prize winner in a grand Prix of young Mongolian artists. A.Ochirbold opened his solo exhibition “Color without Color” at the exhibition hall of the Union of Mongolian Artists a few days ago.His profession was determined when he was a child. He made various shapes of animal in Plasticine and showed them to his parents when he was a child. His hobby became his profession through his studies at the Institute of Fine Arts from 1993 to 1998. His wife is also a visual artist. His wife said that A.Ochirbold graduated from his institute with the highest marks. He was the first person to open a solo exhibition of sculptures created in steel. There is diverse range of materials available to sculptors, but he chose steel because it best suited his artwork’s theme and design. He was able to drink in his thoughts against the brightness of steel surfaces and wanted to share that with audiences. Most of his sculptures are of horses. Asked about the recurring them, he replied, “The horse is a spirited animal, or I love horses because I am Mongolian. I don’t know why I chose horses. Suddenly, I expressed my thoughts through horses and horse sculptures.” A.Ochirbold is one of the nation’s most promising young artists. He has created around ten large-scale sculptures, namely “Buur Jamyan” (1998), “Demuul Arslan” (1999), “Chingunjav” (2010), and “Tsogt Taij” (2012).
He created a statue of Chingunjav located in Khuvsgul Province, a statue of Tsogt Taij located in Bulgan Province, and most recently created a statue of Queen Mandukhai the Wise now at Viva City.
