Ceremony for 20th anniversary of Mongolian Adventure Travel Association kicks off with national championship
When the Mongolian Adventure Travel Association was established 20 years ago, about 150 athletes joined this association in the first year and a national championship took place for the first time. Now, over 250 athletes of 36 teams from six districts of Ulaanbaatar as well as Dornod, Sukhbaatar, Khentii, Dornogovi, Arkhangai, Darkhan-Uul, and Selenge are participating in this year’s championship. Athletes gathered in Sukhbaatar Square and went to Gachuur earlier on August 1. They will organize many events and competitions including rock climbing, racing to the mountain top, map contest, a cheerful relay race, and trench-finding competition in Gachuur. As a side note, adventure travel has no age limit. The youngest member athlete is only four years old and oldest athlete is 85 in this year’s tournament.
Here’s an interview with the General Secretary of Mongolian Adventure Travel Association, International Master B.Jamiyandorj.
- Adventure travel sounds really interesting. This travel includes a lot of sports. What have you done since the Mongolian Adventure Travel Association was established?
- We have set up rules and regulations on horse, water, cave, and fishing sports. We have prepared over 300 athletes and 100 judges in sport travel. In addition, we have trained guides in adventure travel.
The specific quality of sports travel is that the result of any competition rides on the team’s success. Unity, discipline, and organization are very important in this type of sport because the result depends on the team and not just on one person. Therefore, athletes who train for this sport understand and practice unity, patience, mental strength, and collaboration. Moreover, the sport places a great importance on protecting nature and knowing more about our country.
- Was a meeting about the anniversary organized after the national championship?
- After the three-day competition, we organized a meeting about our anniversary. Afterwards, the “Fame of Athletes” event took place.
I wish success to all of the teams who are participating in our annual competition. Happy anniversary to all athletes, teachers, coaches, and supporting organizations!
