Today marks International Day of UN Peacekeepers
Today, May 29th, the International Day of the United Nations Peacekeepers is marked internationally.
The Mongolian Armed Forces celebrate the 11th Anniversary of the Mongolian Armed Forces participation in the UN peacekeeping operations.
It has been 11 years since Mongolia sent its Armed Forces on peacekeeping missions with a UN mandate in 2002.
Since the first team, a 12 member Mongolian artillery crew and its support staff that were dispatched to Afghanistan, Mongolia has subsequently dispatched deployments of mainly infantry troops that have undertaken security missions.
Since then Mongolian troops missions have changed from security missions to a variety of different operations due to extensive military experience.
Many Mongolian units subsequently joined the UN peacekeeping operations in Kosovo, Sierra Leone and the Western Sahara after the previous missions in Afghanistan and Iraq.
