S.Nyam-Ochir takes gold at World Masters in Russia



Mongolian judoka and London Olympic bronze medalist S.Nyam-Ochir won the gold medal in the men’s 73-kg weight class at the World Masters judo tournament on Saturday, the first day of the competition. 




Another Mongolian judoka Kh.Tsagaanbaatar competed in the same weight class and took bronze.
The two judokas were matched against each other in the semifinal where S.Nyam-Ochir beat his countryman Kh.Tsagaanbaatar.



S.Nyam-Ochir beat Dutch judoka Dex Elmont in the final. These two have wrestled in the London Olympics in the bronze medal bout.



Kh.Tsagaanbaatar became the judoka who has won gold, silver, and bronze medals for three years in a row. He previously took gold from the World Masters in Baku in 2011, and silver in Almaty in 2012.



On the same day, Mongolian judoka D.Sumiya defeated World Champion Automne Pavia of France to win the gold medal in the women’s 57 kg.



In addition, judokas G.Boldbaatar won the silver medal in the men’s 60 kg and A.Tsolmon took also silver in the women’s 53 kg.



The World Masters 2013 is taking place in Tyumen, Russia. It is the highest ranking tournament from the International Judo Federation (IJF) where 16 highest-ranking judokas in the World Ranking list in each of the weight classes compete against each other. The gold medalist will earn 700 points, the silver medalist will earn 420, and 280 points will be given to the bronze medalist. This year, a total of 14 Mongolian judokas took part in the tournament and, according to its schedule, four Mongolian judokas competed in their games last night
