10th Discover Mongolia 2012 Forum

The Discover Mongolia forum began yesterday at 9 am at the Children’s Palace. The Forum, now Mongolia’s main venue for the widest international exchange on Mongolia’s minerals developments, was initiated by a group of Mongolian entrepreneurs in 2003 with the aim to help Mongolia to expose her astounding mineral potentials out to the world, and help facilitate forging lasting and fruitful partnerships between Mongolian and the international minerals community. Throughout its 9 years of history, the “Discover Mongolia” Forum has become one of the hallmark events in Mongolia’s minerals exploration and development sector. It is crucial to note that the Discover Mongolia Forum has always been supportive of foreign investment in Mongolia’s minerals sector. The Forum has acted as a key information bridge between the Mongolian government and private sector investors through its “Government Hour” sessions.

Organizers note that the primary goal of the Forum is to promote the Mongolian mining sector to the international community, to connect interested parties and to provide new and exciting insights, while introducing new projects of interest to foreign and domestic investors. As the forum has progressed, mining exploration has continued to be at the forefront of delegate interest. Not surprisingly, the changing legal environment, government participation and the landscape of the mineral community in Mongolia have also been key areas of discussion, To this end, Discover Mongolia has widened its focus across the mining sector to include developments in policy, legislation, investment opportunities, as well as mineral exploration and development. To do this, the forum has been divided into four main sections.

These include, the Mining Conference, Government Hour meeting, the Investor’s Exchange Exhibition and the Mine Site Visit.

• The Mining Conference is the main venue for both professionals and investors to meet and discuss opportunities to gain insight into Mongolia’s further development, legislative and legal aspects of the mineral sector to identify changes and issues that the Mongolian mineral sector may encounter and to present international and domestic projects that are favourable relative to the current and future market conditions.

• The Government Hour meeting is an opportunity for private and public sector individuals to engage in discussions on issues such as the private sector investment in minerals industry. This session is truly a bridge between the Mongolian government and private sector investors and mining executives to better understand the conditions and needs of corporate and public entities during the continued mining boom.

• The Investor’s Exchange Exhibition offers an exciting opportunity for international and domestic companies and contractors to attract investment into their projects while promoting their businesses and services. 

Similarly, investors have the opportunity to speak more intimately with corporate executives about their prospective projects and to identify potential opportunities that suite their investment interests.

• The Mine Site Visit offers an opportunity for delegates to experience a large mining operation in Mongolia. 

This visit highlights the operational expertise of Mongolian producers and provides international parties with a further understanding of the level of sophistication that can be expected of Mongolian mining.

The Discover Mongolia Forum presents itself as a “Centre of Excellence” for the region and as a gateway to international opportunities for Mongolian mining sector. In the past, many of the local and international delegates have broadened their knowledge by sharing their values and experiences at the conference.

Each year, the organizers of Discover Mongolia host a “Welcome Reception” for attendees in order to facilitate networking with fellow delegates, enjoyment of local food and drinks, and provide access to folk entertainment. The event is intended for attendees to exchange views and ideas and develop opportunities for cooperation.

The Discover Mongolia Forum 2012 ends today at 9pm. The first President of Mongolia and Chairman of the Organizing Committee, P. Ochirbat, will be closing the event.
