Unlucky Nash

James Nash finished an encouraging fourth from seventh on the grid for the opening TCR International series race at Oschersleben in Germany but was unlucky later when he had his second race ruined and forced to retire his Lukoil Craft-Bamboo Racing SEAT Leon with heavy damage following a multiple shunt at the start in which all involved were fortunate to escape injury.

The shunt triggered by Italian Honda driver Roberto Colciago saw six others eliminated alongside the Italian including Nash's Spanish teammate Pepe Oriola and the VW of former touring car World Champion Rob Huff. Several of the cars were badly damaged leaving a number of teams with a lot of work to do to get them ready for this coming Wednesday when they are due to be shipped to the Far East for the next event..

Both races were won by the VW of former Grand Prix driver Gianni Morbidelli with Nash's British teammate Daniel Lloyd finishing second and Rob Huff third in the opening race with Mat'o Homola's Opel and Jean-Karl Vernay's VW finishing second and third respectively in race two.

Despite the set-back of not being able to take part in a restarted second race Nash has moved up to sixth in the championship standings, albeit 67 points behind the leader, Vernay. However, with just three events and six races still to go this season, for Nash to challenge for the title through to the very last race as he did last year, unfortunately seems now a very big ask of the Milton Keynes-based driver.

The TCR International Series' now takes a summer break with the next event on the calendar scheduled to be at Buriram in Thailand on 2-3 September.
