Convoy in the Park set to be a family thriller this July!

On July 22-23 Donington Park will play host to the UK’s newest and most exciting family-focused motoring festival – Convoy in the Park.

Convoy in the Park is the ultimate celebration of trucks, drivers and life on the road, providing thrills, spills and entertainment suitable for the whole family.

The on-track centrepiece of Convoy in the Park will be the fifth round of the British Truck Racing Championship (BTRC). Over the weekend, these titans of the track will do battle in 10 races – five in each division – and there will also be a full programme of support races.

The BTRC provides some of the closest racing you are likely to see – sometimes a little too close! -  and the 2017 title race is wide open with a number of drivers having already taken race wins. A procession it certainly isn’t!

Away from the track, there will also be a wealth of entertainment and attractions to for people see and take part in.

On both days there will be live music, with some great acts confirmed to play. These include Guns ‘n Roses tribute act Guns or Roses; Eastbourne-based trio Knocksville, who describe themselves as a “blues infused dirty rock n roll band”; genre-blending punk Millie Manders and The Shutup; John Lewis & his Rock N Roll Trio, who blend classic rockabilly with a modern attitude and alt-country/Americana band Mashville.

In addition, on the Saturday night, there will be an outdoor cinema showing – what else? – the classic 1978 trucking movie Convoy.

Other attractions include the latest activity for thrill-seekers – the bag jump, where participants jump from various heights from a 12-metre container into a smoke-filled 'pit of doom'. There will also be the chance to ride in a monster truck, see truck sprints, caravan demolition stunts and much more.

But, of course, trucks will be at the heart of the event. There will be hundreds of trucks on show from heavily customised American giants, through to working – but immaculately maintained – trucks that will be back on the road come Monday. A full trade exhibition will take place as well.
There will also be the chance to see a world record, as Swedish manufacturer Scania is planning to set a record for the largest gathering of trucks of a single make in one place.

“Convoy in the Park is the ultimate celebration of trucks and drivers,” said Dan Parton, editor of Truck & Driver magazine. “Truck drivers are the people who keep the country running, delivering goods across the country every day of the year, but they don’t get the recognition they deserve. This event is designed to celebrate everything that is great about the industry in a fun, family-friendly way.”

Tickets are currently on sale for Convoy in the Park. An adult one day ticket costs £15 in advance, while a weekend ticket costs £25 (advance) Children aged 13 and under get in free. Day tickets on the gate cost £20 and a weekend ticket is £35.
