Barnsley rally ace David White on hunt for BRC4 victory at Nicky Grist Stages

Just a fortnight after securing maximum points in the BRC4 category of the Prestone MSA British Rally Championship at the Ypres Rally, Barnsley’s David White will head to the Nicky Grist Stages next weekend (8/9 July) hoping to extend his lead in the series.

White, along with co-driver son Mathew overcame an extensive trip into one of the infamous Belgian ditches to score a full house of points for his title aspirations on the gruelling two-day event in mainland Europe.

But with the British Championship schedule a tightly packed affair, crews have just two weeks to ready their cars for the forthcoming event, which sees a shift to a dual surface of both gravel and asphalt during the weekend.

White is enjoying his first foray into the British Championship after contesting the National Asphalt Championship for several years at the wheel of a Subaru Impreza.

The shift to the Mirage Vape Stores backed Ford Fiesta R2 has proved a difficult one for the Yorkshireman, but as the season progresses, White is learning more about the car with each event and aims to take another point haul in Wales.

“I’m really pleased to have even made it to the finish of the Ypres Rally, it was probably the toughest rally I have ever done,” said White.

“After retiring from the Pirelli Rally, we really needed those points and it’s great to see Gee Atherton back in the series to give us challenge in Wales”.

The Nicky Grist Stages offers a unique format with Saturday’s opening leg consisting of around 44 miles of gravel forest stages, with Sundays route shifting to an all asphalt leg across the Epynt Military Ranges.  White is looking forward to the additional test that a mid-event surface change will bring.

“I'm probably in a minority here in as much as I've competed on Epynt many times, but have never contested the forest stages there,” says White.

“Most of the other guys have been in those woods as the stages are classics, but never really strayed onto the ranges.  I think we will bide our time on Saturday and just get through it and have a push on the tar on Sunday. I'll feel a little more at home there!”

The Nicky Grist Stages takes place on the 8th/9th July and is based in Builth Wells, Wales.

White is running under the Two 4 Motorsport banner and is backed by Mirage E Cigarettes, F & G Commercials, DAF, Whites Bakery, Speedline Wheels and Pirelli.
