Two good drives go unrewarded
James Nash left Austria's ultra-quick Salzburgring on Sunday disappointed on Sunday after good clean drives in both TCR International Series races yielded 'only' sixth-place results in each. Good starts in both, in particular in the second race when he briefly held third position were negated as clearly faster cars were able to simply drive past Nash's SEAT Leon on the straights.
Ironically Nash's Lukoil Craft-Bamboo Racing team came into the weekend buoyed following a test at the circuit that had seen them record the top three times. The good form continued through Free Practice but started to wane as previously unfancied cars came through when it mattered in qualifying and in the races.
As the TCR International Series reached its halfway point, the only consolation for Nash was that he moved up from eighth to seventh in the standings, albeit 59 points adrift of championship leader Swiss driver Stefano Comini, the man of course, who narrowly beat him to the title at the final meeting last year.
Dusan Borkovic driving an Alfa Romeo won race one from the Opel of Mat'o Homola and Comini's Audi with Roberto Colciago and Attila Tassi recording a Honda 1-2 in race two with Comini third again in his Audi.
The next event takes place next weekend, June 17th and 18th at the Hungaroring.

" Finishing sixth in both races might seem a reasonable result but its not where I want to be. I made good starts and fought as hard as I could for as long as I could but really there is nothing you can do fairly to stop yourself going backwards here when others have faster cars on the straight. "
" I know that I'm driving every bit as well as I did last year and I'm sure Pepe Oriola in another of the Lukoil Craft-Bamboo Racing SEATs feels the same too. The team has lost nothing either and we're all continuing to work as hard as ever but we've got some head scratching to do to see if we can find a solution."
