Cyril Raymond came, saw and conquered as Red Bull GRC Lites sped into Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park in Connecticut last weekend (3/4 June), taking a dominant clean sweep of the heat races and finals in New England. Fastest in qualifying on Saturday to secure pole position, Raymond proved unbeatable in his two heats before becoming the third different final winner of the 2017 campaign behind the wheel of his #13 Olsbergs MSE X Forces entry. The 24-year-old Frenchman lined up second the following day, but out-dragged pole-sitter Alex Keyes away from the lights to lead from flag-to-flag in his first heat. He repeated the result in heat two to keep his triumphant run firmly intact, and then completed his weekend’s work with an imperious performance in the final to accomplish what no GRC Supercar driver could do – win every single race he started. “What a weekend!” Raymond enthused. “I’m dreaming, I really am. I owe a massive thanks to my team – they did a great job throughout and gave me a super-fast car. It might have looked easy from the outside, but I can assure you it’s never easy when you’re inside the car and the pressure is on. I had to push every moment of every lap, but it was worth it – this result is for everybody at Olsbergs MSE X Forces.” Fellow Olsbergs MSE X Forces driver Cole Keatts made it cause for a double celebration for the team by claiming not only his maiden heat victory but also his first semi-final win. The next round of GRC Lites will take place in Ottawa, Canada in a fortnight’s time (17/18 June).
