Sam Bilham looks for fourth Fiesta ST Trophy win of the season in Cumbria this weekend

Bingley rally driver Sam Bilham will head to Cumbria this weekend looking for win number four in the BTRDA Rally Series N3 class and DMACK Fiesta ST Trophy at the DMACK Carlisle Stages.

Taking a hat-trick of wins so far this season, the 2300 Club John Easson Award winner and co-driver Cameron Fair have been a dominant pairing in the hotly contested single make championship and will enter the second half of the series firmly in control at the top of the standings.

Backed by Calvert Construction and Reis Motorsport Insurance, Bilham has fought off the competition to rack up an impressive position in several BTRDA categories going into the second half of the season. Aside from leading the Fiesta ST Trophy and class N3 runners, Bilham also heads the Junior Driver Award and MSA English Rally Championship Junior’s.  He is joint second overall in the Silver Star standings, third in the English E4 class and fourth in the Production Cup.

Undeniably, Bilham will be aiming to take yet another victory this weekend in the Kershope and Kielder forests but is well aware that it’s not a foregone conclusion.

“We had a bit of a scare during the opening stages at the Plains rally and found ourselves way down the order” says Bilham. “Luckily we found the issue at service but it was hard work to get back out front from fifth place. It goes to prove that you can’t take anything for granted and a puncture or spin could mean the difference between winning and being way down the order”.

Despite his success this season, Bilham is just ten points ahead of his nearest rival so cannot afford to relax. “Of course a win is the goal but perhaps it’s time we started looking at the bigger picture and our championship aspirations for the season. We still need a strong finish this weekend and no matter what, that is what we need to do to maintain our title hopes.”

The DMACK Carlisle Stages is round four of the BTRDA series with over 40 miles of competitive driving in store for crews on Saturday 10th June.

Sam is supported by 2300 Club John Easson Award, Calvert Construction, Reis Motorsport Insurance, The Garage at Stanley Mills, Northern Life Magazine and Gareth Hooper Motorsport Services.
