Superkarts and sports cars at Donington Park this Sunday
Machines small and large will be in action at Donington Park this Sunday (17 July) as the British Automobile Racing Club (BARC) visits the circuit for a day of high speed racing. Categories racing include Superkarts (the fastest karts in the world), the Dunlop Prototype Series for Le Mans style sports cars, and the Clubmans Cup for front engined sports racing cars. The Superkarts visit Donington Park for the second time this season and form the bulk of the racing action. A total of six Superkart races will take place, with three races apiece for the 125 and 250/450 categories. These minnows of motorsport are immensely impressive machines, and despite their tiny size, can easily hit speeds of up to 150mph and boast aerodynamic stylings that enable them to lap at Formula Three levels. The racing from these machines is always extremely exciting, as a combination of speed, small sizes and daring drivers means they frequently go wheel to wheel around Donington’s undulations.
The Dunlop Prototype Series will bring a real flavour of Le Mans to the event, with a grid of cars of the type that raced at the famous 24 hour race recently. Cars right up to impressive LMP2 specification in multiple classes will do battle in the one hour race, with driver changes also thrown into the mix, to further replicate the Le Mans feel.
Completing the racing line-up is action from the Clubmans Cup, which caters for an eclectic mix of front engined sports cars in two races from a wide range of manufacturers. Due to their low cost and high speeds, a large grid is expected for these eccentric cars which have provided excellent racing since 1965. Tickets for the British Automobile Racing Club event at Donington Park on 17 July are available upon arrival at the circuit for £17, with free entry for children aged 13 and under.
