Moritz Mueller-Crepon: Fourth race weekend ADAC Formula 4 Oschersleben 21. June 2016

During the ADAC TCR race weekend at Oschersleben, Moritz Mueller-Crepon would again experience the highs and lows of motorsport. But the Van Amersfoort driver was able to show both good pace, as well as crossing the finish line in two races.

Qualification:

Moritz Mueller-Crepon qualified eighth in his group, starting 15th on the grid.

Race 1

Moritz Mueller-Crepon’s first race of the weekend ended abruptly, as a huge crash in turn one forced him to avoid the collisions in front. But he ran out of space, and was pushed into the gravel. “I had nowhere, but it happens in racing. Even if it is a shame to end a race like this,” said the 19-year-old.

Race 2

Moritz Mueller-Crepon started in 13th place for race two.

Mueller-Crepon made a good start and was quick off the line, using his speed to gain three positions by the end of the very first lap. On the following time around, Moritz showed his racecraft by leaving just enough space for Juan Manuel Correa (Prema Powerteam), who made his way past in the first corner. Despite losing a position, The Van Amersfoort driver was able to keep good pace and followed Correa closely, as well as putting him under pressure. On lap 16, a braking issue suddenly allowed Job van Uitert (Jenzer Motorsport) to pass Mueller-Crepon, which resulted in a 12th place finish for the driver of car number 25, after a surprisingly uneventful race, which had no safety car or red flag periods. “I managed to keep out of trouble, which was the most important thing,” he explained.

Race 3

After retiring in race 1, Moritz Mueller-Crepon started 32nd on the grid.

Chaos engulfed the start of the third and final race of the weekend, with an extra formation lap being required, due to one of the drivers getting out of position on the starting grid. After a good start, Mueller-Crepon was able to fight his way up to 24th place after just three laps, before the Safety Car was deployed, due to a car stopping in a dangerous position in the gravel. The Safety Car was kept busy, as it was due to go in, before another driver spun out of the race, extending the Safety Car period in the last minute. Coming to the straight the first cars already accelerated while a few other decided to take it slow again because of the Safety Car, which resulted in a multi-car accident at the first corner. The race had to be red flagged  With 10 minutes left to go, the race was restarted behind the Safety Car. However, Ricardo Feller (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport) went off at turn one, bringing out the final Safety Car period of the weekend. Mueller-Crepon took the chequered flag behind the Safety Car in 18th place, making up 14 places in a single race.

Moritz Mueller-Crepon: „We’ve had some good recovery drives, having finished the last two races. It was our aim to avoid any incidents, which worked out. The main positive to take from this weekend is the strong pace we showed, so I’m feeling optimistic for the upcoming races. Now we are half way through the season with just four rounds left, so the whole team are fully focused to show what we are capable of.“

In 31 days, the 2016 ADAC Formula 4 Championship heads to Austria’s Red Bull Ring for the fifth weekend of the season, which takes place between the 22nd and the 24th of July.
