Styrin Stamps his Mark at Snetterton

The Toyo Tires BRSCC Porsche Championship took to Snetterton in Norfolk 

this weekend to open its account for the 2016 season, and 2-time Boxster 

Champion, Rick Styrin, set about laying his claim to the title with a typically strong performance. The Styrin Motors Chief continued with the form that saw him dominate the latter stages of last season with a strong qualifying time, backed up by taking two of the three Class A race wins.

A 16 strong grid took to qualifying on Saturday morning, with Styrin's #99 Boxster setting the fastest lap of the session, from Ed Hayes and James Coleman. Nizar el-Chamaa set the pace for the 924s, while John Broadley found himself excluded due to a technical infringement.

A fastest lap from last season’s champion Ed Hayes (pictured - in the spare TF car) wasn't enough to stop Rick Styrin taking the first race win of the season, leading by a mere 0.096 seconds from Hayes in second and TF chief, Gerry Taylor making a guest appearance, in third. Pip Hammond convincingly took home the 924 top spot, with Linda Warren taking a second place podium from Hugh Peart.

Garry Lawrence and Garry Goodwin were unfortunate to end the first session with DNF's, while James Coleman was excluded from the results.

Sunday's first race saw a reversal of Saturday’s results for the top of the Boxster grid, with Rick Styrin taking the fastest lap but being unable to stop Ed Hayes notching a race win. The defending champion took a convincing victory from Stryin, 7.379 seconds ahead, with Gerry Taylor again taking third place.

In the 924's Pip Hammond was again victorious, with Linda Warren again taking 2nd place. Nizar el-Chamaa bounced back from Saturday's race by taking 3rd place.

The final race brought with it a reverse grid, with Garry Lawrence on pole and Styrin and Hayes joining Angus Archer – a DNF in race 2 – at the back. This time Styrin made no mistake as he picked up a fastest lap point, and the race win from Richard Avery in 2nd and Ed Hayes 3rd. John Broadley, Nick Hull, Alex Stocker and Darren House were all non-finishers, while the three-strong trio of Hammond, Warren and el-Chamaa taking repeat Class C podiums in weekend’s final race.

The Championship heads to Rockingham on the 14th and 15th of May for the second round, and we look forward to seeing you there.
