MJ loved laughing at rival Prince: book

Michael Jackson in 'Thriller'.

The 'Thriller' hitmaker - who died of acute Propofol intoxication in June 2009 - took great delight in watching his chart rival "falling as flat as he could" and even showed the clips to visitors at his Neverland ranch.

Recalling when he and producing partner Kenneth 'Babyface' Edmonds visited the star to discuss the possibility of writing with him, L.A. Reid explained in his autobiography how they had toured the legendary house before being taken to a screening room.

Michael put on footage of a 1983 James Brown concert where he was called on stage as a guest and "danced a few steps", before his rival was also asked to join the singer.

And to the 'Billie Jean' hitmaker's delight, Prince's appearance didn't go as well.

L.A. recounted in his book, 'Sing To Me': "Prince [couldn't] make his guitar work, frantically stripping off his shirt and trying tricks with the microphone stand and making all these poses. After Michael's dazzling star turn, Prince fell as flat as he could, and Michael enjoyed laughing at the video."

And the star wasn't content with just one clip.

The producer added: "After that, he put on a scene from Prince's movie 'Under The Cherry Moon,' the artsy black-and-white bomb he made after 'Purple Rain,' and he laughed some more at Prince."
