G.Munkhbayar becomes champion of World Amateur Chess Championship

The World Amateur Chess Championship took place in Singapore from April 25 to May 4.




Some 15 Mongolian chess players competed in the championship.


Mongolia’s FIDE Master E.Baasansuren, Sports Master B.Nyamdavaa, Vice Masters A.Bayarsaikhan, Sh.Batbileg, Kh.Bayarkhuu, B.Ariunbold, U.Agibileg, G.Munkhbayar, Ts.Bat-Erdene, B.Irmuuntulga and B.Batsuld competed in the men’s category.


G.Munkhbayar won a gold medal from the championship and became an FIDE Master. Another Mongolian chess player, U.Agibileg captured silver among 184 chess players from 39 countries and became an FIDE Vise Master title.


Sports Master U.Nyamtuya, Vice Masters U.Uurintuya and B.Ganchimeg competed in the women’s category. Vice Master U.Uuriintuya won bronze from among 23 chess players and received the title of FIDE Vice Master.


The next edition of the championship will be held in Chalcidice, Greece from April 13 to 22 this year.
