Bold Triumphs Over Percy Yung To Claim Red Dragon Victory In Macau
Mongolia’s Buyanjargal Bold has won a famous victory at the Red Dragon Main Event, after defeating a huge field of 995 players over six days on his way to capturing the title, and collecting the HK$1,492,000 (US $192,404) top prize.
The HK$11,000 (US$1,420) Red Dragon Main Event attracted a record-breaking field to the City of Dreams in Macau to create a prize pool worth HK$ 9,651,500 (US$ 1,244,632). By the time the final table of nine had been reached, Australia’s Victor Teng was the chip leader on a 3.53m stack, followed by Mongolia’s Buyanjargal Bold (2.7m), and India’s Akash Malik (2.28m). Also at the final table was last lady standing Percy Yung (see photo) from Hong Kong, as well as four Chinese players and US player Richard Hu.
Percy Yung (A-K) then proceeded to eliminate Terry Fan (Chinese Taipei) in 8th (US$24,631), before being dealt A-Q and doing likewise to Fei Xie (A-4) in 6th for $43,072.
Buyanjargal Bold (4-4) subsequently joined the fray by eliminating Richard Hu (A-4) in 4th ($76,988), and after Percy Yung (A-A) sent Victor Teng to the rail in 3rd ($193,178), the heads-up phase of the competition got underway between Bold and Yung.
As the final battle commenced, Percy Yung held a 2-to-1 advantage over Bold, but the Mongolian player was soon able to overcome his deficit when the defining hand was played with Yung all-in holding K-9, but up against the A-8 of Bold. The dealer then put out an A-4-6-4-2 board to consign Yung to a runner-up finish worth $149,462, while Buyanjargal Bold was crowned the 2014 MPC20 Red Dragon champion.
