Mongolia holds National Renewable Energy Forum
The National Renewable Energy Forum was held at Tuushin Hotel in Ulaanbaatar last week. The event invited scholars and organizations operating in the country’s renewable energy sector to discuss issues and prospects in the sector.
This year, the participants discussed long and short term plans for the development of renewable energy and talked about overcoming current issues pertaining to the industry.
During the event, Ministry of Energy M.Sonompil and a group of delegates lead by Gauri Singh, director of Country Support and Partnerships at the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), led a discussion titled, “Mongolia’s Readiness for Renewable Energy”.
“I am grateful Mongolia is focusing on developing renewable energy. I have travelled to over 50 countries and Mongolia is the first where this issue is considered at such a high government level. It’s therefore no surprise that our Director General specifically entrusted me to pay special attention to Mongolia. The government of Mongolia aspires to develop renewable energy,” said Gauri Singh during the meeting. “The foundation and ecosystem to develop renewable energy have been established. This can be proven by the fact that the large amount of resources of renewable energy, transmission network, and the legal environment have been established. The structure of supporting organizations is ready, and the attraction of investors’ attention, as well as advisement to cooperate with countries such as Norway, which has a similar climate and developed a renewable energy industry.”
The Minister of Energy expressed his interest in developing cooperation and relations with IRENA and talked about the government’s projects to develop renewable energy. Gauri Singh invited the Minister to take part in the fourth General Assembly of IRENA which is set for January 2014.
