Hospital studies mummies with 3D apparatus
The Ulaanbaatar Songdo Hospital has reported that it has conducted research on adult and child mummies discovered in Mongolian territory using new apparatus recently obtained by the hospital at a cost of over 600 million MNT. The new apparatus is a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) device, which scans the brain, spine, bones, joints and muscles in three dimensions (3D) at high definition. The 3D apparatus is capable of producing images at high resolutions.
The director of the hospital B.Boldsaikhan explained the study of the mummies, saying “Our hospital has completed the medical examination of the mummies. We determined the mummies’ ages and the percentage of the brain matter remaining in the skulls. We can’t announce the results immediately as the findings are part of a complex study. The Mongolian Academy of Sciences is studying the mummies from various angles, including the genetics and ethnography, just as Egyptians study their mummies.”
