Agreement signed for green development
The Ulaanbaatar City Mayor, E.Bat-Uul, and the Minister of Nature, Environment and Green Development, S. Oyun, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding agreeing to cooperate in implementing the 2013-2016 Action Plan, which aims to ensure a secure and healthy environment for citizens of Ulaanbaatar, and they agreed to consider the importance of the environment in urban planning and in infrastructure construction.
The Action Plan includes proposals to establish satellite towns to reduce population density in Ulaanbaatar, develop apartment buildings – connected to central heating, water and power supply – in the ger districts, and to build an industrial park. This industrial park, to be built between 2013 and 2016, will be located outside Ulaanbaatar so as to decrease the pollution caused by leather, cashmere and other factories.
The two officials also agreed to cooperate on ensuring proper waste management, including collection, storage and elimination, and agreed that recycling plants are greatly needed.
