Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake alums take 5th in Judo World Cup
ULAABATAR, Mongolia — Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake graduates Nick Kossor and Hannah Martin posted strong showings at Saturday’s Chinggis Khan Judo World Cup.
Both Kossor and Martin finished fifth in their respective divisions, and moved up considerably in the world rankings as a result.
Kossor went 2-2 on the day, defeating Bektur Abdrasulov and Ka Chun Lau, and is now #51 in the world in the 60kg division. His losses came to champion Amartuvshin Dashdavaa and bronze medalist Boldbaatar Chimed-Yondon.
Meanwhile, Martin topped Enkhzaya Selene in her first matchup. She then fell to gold medalist Haruka Yasmatsu and third-place finisher Meehwa Kim, but still rose to #34 in the world in the 63kg category.
Both Kossor and Martin have established themselves as top-flight competitors in their sport.
Kossor is a two-time national champion, while Martin is the current national champion in her division and was an alternate on the 2008 United States Olympic team.
