Ahmadinejad to Mongolia President: NAM suitable platform for independent states
(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) has an appropriate capacity for independent countries, urging all member states to help accomplish the movement’s goals.
“While the global situation is undergoing fundamental change, independent countries and nations should stand by each other in order to be able to be influential in the future developments of the world,” Ahmadinejad said in a meeting with President of Mongolia Elbegdorj Tsakhia in Tehran on Saturday.
The 16th NAM summit wrapped up in the Iranian capital on Friday, with the member states passing a final resolution, which included over 700 paragraphs.
NAM is an international organization with 120 member states that is not formally aligned with or against any major power bloc.
The Iranian president described as “positive” the Islamic Republic’s relations with Mongolia, adding that the expansion of mutual ties would be beneficial to the two nations and other independent peoples.
Ahmadinejad expressed hope that Tehran and Ulaanbaatar would take “important and influential” measures in cooperation with each other.
The Mongolian president, for his part, said the NAM is a strong bloc in the political and global scene.
He emphasized that, given its important regional and international role, the Islamic Republic would certainly improve the movement’s position during its presidency over the bloc.
Iran assumed the rotating presidency of the NAM for a three-year term during the 16th NAM Summit.
