Olympics 2012 Results: United States Tuesday/Day 4 medals, scores

Michael Phelps claimed the Olympic medals record and the U.S. women's gymnastics regained 1996 form, as Tuesday (Day 4) saw Team USA increase its medals total to 23: nine gold, eight silver and six bronze. The gymnastics and swimming triumphs headlined a monster day of United States results, yet still fails to eclipse China, as the two countries remain tied in London Olympics 2012 medal count — China owning the edge in golds.

The Team USA men's basketball action resulted in a Carmelo Anthony-led drubbing of Tunisia. Allison Schmitt set a Olympic swimming record and an American won the gold in khakis; No that's not an event, he was wearing khakis.

Individual archery competition:

Jacob Wukie defeated India's Jayanta Talukdar in the round of 64 but was eliminated in the round of 32 by Norway's Baard Nesteng, 111-109, in men's individual archery competition.

Jennifer Nichols defeated India's Chekrovolu Swuro in the round of 64 but was eliminated in the round of 32 by Mongolia's Bishindee Urantungalag, 6-4, in women's individual archery competition.

The men's team improves to 2-0 with a 110-63 win over Tunisia.

In group play:

Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers defeat Spain 19-21, 21-16, 15-13, improving to 2-0.

Jen Kessy and April Ross defeat Netherlands 21-15, 21-12, 15-8, improving to 2-0.

Team USA Boxing Results:

Jamel Herring was eliminated in the opening round by Kazakhstan's Daniyar Yeleussinov, 19-9, in the men's welterweight division.

Team USA Equestrian Results:

Team USA finished the show jumping stage in seventh to conclude competition.

Team USA Fencing Results:

Race Imboden defeated Brazil's Guilherme Toldo 15-5, then lost 15-9 to Italy's Andrea Baldini in the round of 16.

Alexander Massialas defeated Canada's Etienne Lalonde Turbide 15-6, then lost 15-6 to Russia's Alexey Cheremisinov in the round of 16.

Miles Chamley-Watson lost to Egypt's Alaaeldin Mohamed El Sayed Abouelkassem 15-10 in the round of 32.

Team USA Field Hockey:

The women's team upset Argentina 1-0 to improve to 1-1 in group play.

Team USA Gymnastics Results:

The women's team wins their second gold all-time in all-around competition.

Team USA Judo Results:

Travis Stevens lost the bronze medal match to Germany's Bischof Ole in the 81kg.

Team USA Rowing Results:

Ken Jurkowski has been eliminated after placing fifth in the semifinals of men's single sculls.

Gevvie Stone advanced to the semifinals in women's single sculls.

Margot Shumway and Sarah Trowbridge advanced to the finals in women's double sculls.

Kristin Hedstrom and Julie Nichols advanced to the semifinals in women's light double sculls.

Team USA Sailing Results:

Zach Railey finished the day 12th in men's Finn, Trevor Moore and Erik Storck ninth in men's 49er, Robert Willis seventh in men's RS:X, Paige Railey ninth in women's Laser Radial, Mark Mendelblatt and Brian Fatih sixth in men's Star, Farrah Hall 21st in women's RS:X and Rob Crane 36th in men's Laser. The women's Elliot crew crept up to third by sweeping the day's slate of France and Finland.

The women's team shuts out North Korea 1-0.

Team USA Swimming Results:

Caitlin Leverenz scored a bronze in the 200m individual medley while Ariana Kukors finished fifth.

Michael Phelps set the world record for most career Olympic medals with 19 in the 4x200m free relay. Team USA won the event with Phelps swimming the fastest leg and Ryan Lochte starting the race strong. Phelps earlier landed a silver in the 200m fly.

Allison Schmitt set the Olympic record en route to gold in the 200m free while Missy Franklin narrowly missed medaling in the event.

Singles:

Venus Williams scored a 6-1, 6-3 win over Canada’s Aleksandra Wozniack

Andy Roddick fell to Serbia's Novak Djokovic 6-2, 6-1.

Doubles:

Bob and Mike Bryan advanced to the quarterfinals by virtue of a 7-6 (6), 7-6 (1) win over Russia's Nikolay Davydenko and Mikhail Youzhny.

Team USA replaces the Williams sisters with Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond. Huber and Raymond advanced to the quarterfinals past Poland's Agnieszka and Ursula Radwanska 6-4, 7-6 (7-3).

Team USA Volleyball Results:

The men's team improved to 2-0 with a 25-23, 25-16, 25-20 win over Germany.

Team USA Water Polo Results:

The men's team tops Romania 10-8 to improve to 2-0.
