Mongolia's ex-president jailed

Former Mongolian president Nambar Enkhbayar was sentenced to four years behind bars after being found guilty of corruption in Ulan Bator on Thursday.

Four others, including former government officials and a businessman, were also found guilty of corruption and abuse of power.

The ex-President dismissed the sentence as “politically motivated”.

Enkhbayar's trial, broadcast live on many local TV channels, drew much attention in Mongolia. The court ruling may change the country's political landscape with Enkhbayar's Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party, poised to join the coalition government with the Democratic Party of Mongolia, now saying it may reconsider the move.
