‘Ikh Khuraldai’ concert
On August 26 a fabulous concert was held at the Central Cultural Palace. This was a joint concert of Mongolian rock and pop artists and the Mongolian Song and Dance Academic Ensemble, for 50th Anniversary of the Mongolian National Grand Orchestra. The concert was titled ‘Ikh Khuraldai’ which literally means ‘Great assembling.’ The concert was indeed a great assembly of our best Mongolian artists. While opening the performances, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ts.Oyungerel officially greeted everyone and the Mongolian National Grand Orchestra performed ‘Awakened Steppe’ composed by State Prized composer B.Sharav. This is one of their signature repertoires. State Prized singer D.Bold, who is the founder of Mongol Pop, sang his songs ‘Kheeriin Salhitai Mongol Aylguu’ (Mongolian Melody with steppe breeze) and ‘Minii 2 erdene’ (My two treasure). Dancers from the ensemble and two folk song singers added more to D.Bold’s performance.
Pianist and composer B.Chinbat’s performance was very well-received by the audience; he performed ‘Mandukhai the Wise’ by two-time State Prized composer N.Jantsannorov and his own piano composition ‘Uulin suuder aaviig min dairahgui.’ This was one of the most breathtaking parts of the concert, not to mention the girl band ‘Sweetymotion’ with their song ‘Ingen Temeenii Nulims’ (Tears of a camel). On a side note, Chinbat’s parents are senior artists of the MNSDA Ensemble. His father was a famous khuuchir (traditional musical instrument of Mongolia) player and State Honored actor S.Batmunkh and his mother also worked for the ensemble for many years as a musician.
The excitement continued with performances of world music by the National Grand Orchestra. This included ‘How deep is your love’ by the Bee Gees, ‘Earth song’ and ‘Smooth Criminal’ by Michael Jackson and ‘Time to say Goodbye’ by Francesco Sartori . While these world famous songs were being performed, the pictures of the athletes who took medals from the London Olympics appeared on a big screen located in the center of the stage. Pop singer B.Sarantuya, guitarist Uujgii, and violinist Deegii also appeared and showed their talent. The audience was full of joy during the three hour long concert.
