Governance: Paet and Clinton to announce a project to support new democracies
TALLINN - Estonian Minister of Foreign Affairs Urmas Paet will take part in the meeting of Community of Democracies in Mongolia on Monday and Tuesday, writes the National Broadcasting.
Together with the U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Paet will announce the project for advising new democracies titled LEND (Leaders Engaged in New Democracies).
The objective of LEND is to guarantee leaders of transition countries with high-quality expert know-how and advice from countries with positive reform experiences. The idea of the project was presented by the U.S. State Department that proposed that Estonia co-chair the LEND initiative.
According to the Estonian minister, this has been great recognition for Estonia as a successful reformer and a country with a working e-Government. “This will give us an opportunity to support modernization and democratization of transition countries,” he remarked.
During his visit to Ulan Bator, Paet will also meet with President of Mongolia Tsakhia Elbegdorji and with the Mongolian minister of foreign affairs Gombojav Zandanshatar.
