Mongolia holds fine art exhibition to mark World Day to Combat Desertification, Drought

ULAN BATOR, June 16 (Xinhua) -- The Mongolian New Century Art Association held an exhibition entitled Sand Tsunami here Saturday to mark the upcoming World Day to Combat Desertification and Draught.

The exhibition displays fine art works such as paintings, photos and sculptures from 13 artists of the association, which is aimed at reminding people of paying more attention to environmental protection and preventing the desertification of the grassland.

Association member Sodnomtseren Zesee told Xinhua that desertification was caused by humans' misconducts.

She said it is her hope that these modern art works will help raise people's awareness on desertification and drought.

Mongolia has been hit hard by drought and desertification. Currently some 78 percent of its territory has turned into desert or semidesert.
