New Golf GTi 7 spied
We know that on the new GTi it uses VW's new MQB platform, using hot-formed steels to improve rigidity and making it far lighter. The GTi also has an aluminium roof cut the 100 kg's of fat off the car making it a kerb weight of only 1300kgs. We have also heard that in this GTi they will use a direct injection 2,0 liter turbo 4-cylinder called the EA888, it will be used in all performance Golf's and is developed by Audi. It is designed to bring out 300 bhp for the Golf R but the GTi will still have a healthy 240 bhp, about the same at the current Golf 35. It is less that the 265bhp of the Megan and ST but VW has Instead been focusing on the firm will of major driveability with more low-rev shove than its predecessor for rapid overtaking. With lighter weight and more power VW says it will drop the 0-100 km/h from 6,9 seconds to 6 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h. They have also drastically dropped the C02 by 45 making it 150g/km, so the green people will be happy with that.
VW has also focused on making the car more comfortable and easier to drive wile still maintaining great handling and braking. Inside they are going to put a rang of gadgets including fatigue assist (which warns the driver if he or she is about to fall asleep at the wheel), self-parking systems and an iPad-style central touchscreen. The cars will all have the classic dial up rims, red pin striping and a lot of GTi badges. It is expected to debut at the October Paris motor show and sales start beginning 2013. We are going to watch closely and see if it will continue GTi's legacy.
