FM ABOUT MONGOLIANS ABROAD AND ELECTION
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ On Wednesday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs G.Zandanshatar introduced to the cabinet a draft rule concerning the ways the residing abroad Mongolians are to take part in elections.
The draft says about setting up organizing election commissions and sub-commissions at 40 diplomatic missions of Mongolia, determining functions of the commissions, registering voters, releasing and introducing an electorate list, organizing the voting and ensuring its secrecy.
It is expected that this draft is to be approved jointly by the heads of the General Election Committee (GEC) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
A Mongoian living abroad must get registered in the nearest diplomatic mission of Mongolia two-week before the voting day, he/she is to vote either for a political party or coalition, and put the ballot paper into a sealed box.
As of today, some 70 thousand people are living abroad with a right to vote, and only 33 thousand of them have been registered.
