Speaker’s Council discusses draft laws, recess
The Speaker’s Council met on Wednesday to discuss several issues. The council decided that, on Thursday, Parliament should take up matters that have been discussed by the Standing Committees on Budget, on Economics, and on Justice.
The Standing Committee on State Structure did not meet on Wednesday. It still must discuss the draft law on local elections, and the Speaker’s Council decided to convene the committee for a discussion of the draft.
The council also reviewed the results of the MPP and DP caucus meetings that were held on Wednesday. The council believes that, if the two caucuses can reach an agreement on the draft law on local elections, Parliament could go into recess.
