Mongolia’s oldest party restores its original name

The oldest party in Mongolia, the Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party, has decided to restore its original name. The following is the Press Release from its Headquarters:

The XXVI Congress of the MPRP is now concluding the 2nd day of its sessions. In the morning session, the Congress delegates held deliberations following the keynote speeches presented by the Chairman of MPRP, Mr S.Batbold and the Secretary-General U.Khurelsukh.

800 delegates, representing 21 aimags (provinces) and 3 municipalities, have gathered in Ulaanbaatar, capital of Mongolia, to discuss a broad agenda which includes issues such as restoring the party’s original name and amendment of the party platform. The draft Plan of Action was elaborated in two versions, namely a concise “Aspirations of the MPP” and a broader “MPP Action Plan”.

The “Aspirations of the Mongolian People’s Party”, a platform document of the Party, states that the human-centered policies and human development will be at the heart of the Party’s strategy.

The delegates held open deliberations on last 20 years of Mongolia’s democratic development and future challenges that await the nation. The Congress decided that MPP would be the center-left political force, which shares social democratic values, cherishes the ideas of national independence and core interests of its people.

The XXVI Congress of the MPRP is now holding open debates among its delegates, who are expressing their opinion on the nation’s economic and social life, with specific attention being given to the issues such as unemployment and the challenges faced in rural areas.

The Congress is expected to decide on party’s new symbol and flag, and adopt the proposed amendments to its Charter.

business-mongolia.com considers that it is important to review the ruling party’s ideology change, because this change could affect Mongolia’s public and social welfare spending. Moreover, it would give some hints in dealmaking with party rulers and policymakers.
