PREMIER RECEIVES UNDP PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The Prime Minister S.Batbold received Thursday Mrs. Sezin Sinanoglu, the Permament Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to Mongolia.



Beginning the meeting, the Premier congratulated Mrs. Sinanoglu for being appointed as the UNDP's country director for Mongolia, and underlined that the cooperation between Mongolia and the UNDP has been successfully developing. The Premier said that assistance from the UN and the bilateral collaboration significantly contribute to developmental goals of Mongolia, and that the UNDP representative also plays a main role in this development.



The Premier mentioned that the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) determines frames of strategic activities of the UN system which renders assistance to Mongolia for realizing goals. Then he pointed out that Mongolia has appreciated the UNDAF to be implemented in 2012-2015.



The Premier said Mongolia has gained achievements in its endeavor to satisfy implementation of indicators reflected in the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015. "But the goals as reducing poverty, ensuring gender equality and environment are implemented a bit slower," the Premier added.



S.Batbold told Mrs. Sinanoglu that he wants to arrange a seminar with participation of the government, the UN, NGOs and public with purposes to determine frames and goals of the Mongolia-UNDP cooperation and to unite further measures and activities.



Mrs. Sinanoglu thanked the Premiert for the audience and said she will make efforts to widen the Mongolia-UN cooperation. She highly spoke active works of Mongolia to satisfy indicators of the MDGs and emphasized that the cabinet meeting held in Gobi desert became an important step to attract attention of the world to global urgent problems such as climate change and desertification.



Mrs. Sinanoglu appreciated the Premier's initiative and expressed a willingness to cooperate with Mongolia in matters on developmental policy.
