Mongolia for deepening economic ties with India

Moscow, May 24 (PTI) Mongolian President Tsakhia Elbegdorj today underlined the need to deepen economic cooperation with India, with which the Central Asian nation has "age-old Buddhist ties".

Accepting the credentials of the new Indian ambassador, Satbir Singh in Ulaanbaatar, President Elbegdorj said his first state visit to a foreign country was to India after last year's election.

"It was a significant statement on the part of the Mongolian leadership of having good relations with India, with which the country has age-old Buddhist ties," Elbegdorj said.

Ambassador Singh was greeted with a guard of honour at a colourful ceremony at central Sukhbaatar Square, where he arrived to a red carpet welcome to the State House to present his credentials.

During the t?te-?-t?te after the ceremony, the President discussed the possibilities of further enhancing business ties between the two nations with Ambassador Singh, according to an embassy release.
